All Coaches - VIRTUS
Prior to beginning volunteer service
ALL coaches (head coaches and any assistant coaches) and registered volunteers for CYO activities are required to complete all (3) Archdiocesan Safe Environment screening and training requirements prior to beginning service:
1) Completion of a Background Screening
2) Read and acknowledge the current Archdiocesan Safe Environment policy(s)
3) Completion of the Virtus Protecting God’s Children for Adults (PGC) live* awareness session[1]
The screening and training requirements begin with registration on the VIRTUS website: https://www.virtusonline.org/virtus/ When you register to become a safe environment compliant volunteer, you are able to complete what is required of you for steps (1) and (2) online, immediately. When you register, please do so from a laptop or PC but not from a smartphone or tablet.
To stay current in abuse prevention best practices, the Archdiocese requires continuing education provided in monthly Virtus bulletins for all coaches and assistant coaches. You will receive notice of these bulletins at the email address you registered on the Virtus website. It is mandatory that these highly informative bulletins are read and acknowledged monthly (completion usually requires 5-10 minutes). It is also mandatory that you complete any additional training modules that the Archdiocese may assign to you. Go to virtus.org to keep current with your abuse prevention responsibilities!
Each parish/school has a Safe Environment Coordinator (SEC) responsible for ensuring compliance with our abuse prevention safety requirements, if you have any questions, please reach out to your DSM using the AD/DSM directory.
The AD/DSM is required to determine who must complete the screening and training requirements and to pass the list to the parish SEC.
[1] If an individual has taken Virtus PGC in another Diocese, the Virtus account must be transferred to the Archdiocese Kansas City in Kansas. Notify the Archdiocesan Office for Protection and Care (OPC) Compliance Administrator for assistance.
