Protecting God's Children: The Archdiocesan VIRTUS Program
The CYO of Johnson & Wyandotte Counties is a proud participant in the effort to assure the safety of all children in the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas. In accordance with Archdiocesan policy, we require that all coaches and CYO staff who have contact with children must be VIRTUS trained and maintain a good standing in this program. This program includes an in-person training course, a background check, and ongoing training through periodic online curriculum. Any person wishing to be a head coach, assistant coach, athletic director or volunteer in CYO needs to complete this training prior to beginning practice or games.
CYO supports the efforts of our parish VIRTUS Coordinators and those in the Archdiocesan offices that make this program possible and work to protect our children. Ahead of each season, the parish athletic directors shall furnish his or her VIRTUS Coordinator with a full list of coaches and/or volunteers in the CYO program, then work with the VIRTUS Coordinator to assure that all coaches have completed the requirements and are in good standing. By working together, we can assure that our children remain safe and sound while participating in CYO.
