CYO GAME SWAP RULES
1. Only whole games can be swapped - no swapping of opponents. All four coaches of the teams involved in the swap must agree to the swap and included on the CYO notification. CYO does not coordinate the swap; please inform CYO after the coordination is completed.
2. Games can be swapped only in the following manners and the same criteria applies if swapping to an open slot at a gym. These criteria are required due to officiating crew assignments, gym assignments and other factors:
a. 3rd grade girls games must be swapped with only 3rd grade girls games. This is due to basket height differences.
b. 3rd grade boys and all genders 4th grade through 8th grade games can only be swapped with 3rd grade boys and all gender 4 grade through 8th grade games.
c. High school boy’s games must be swapped with only high school boy’s games, and high school girl’s games must be swapped with only high school girl’s games.
d. Games can only be swapped on the same game weekend (Friday/Saturday) as originally scheduled and can only be swapped in to gyms already in use and staffed for regularly scheduled CYO games that weekend. Games played at any other times or locations are not sanctioned by CYO and will be considered forfeits and losses by all teams involved.
3. CYO must be notified by email (firstname.lastname@example.org, email@example.com ) of the swap by Thursday at noon the week of the game. The email subject line must read in all caps: CYO SWAP with the gender and divisions. For example, CYO SWAP BOY 6AA AND GIRLS 5A.The body of the email must include the gender, exact divisions, exact team names, gyms and game times being swapped. All coaches involved must be copied on the email. Game swaps are final when CYO confirms receipt of the swap. If a game swap is denied, games will be played as previously scheduled.
Thanks for your interest in forming a CYO High School Basketball team. With over 100 teams each year, these leagues create a fun opportunity for high school aged boys and girls in Kansas and Missouri to compete against their peers
across the area. This page provides an overview of the process for creating a team and seeks to answer frequently asked questions. Our CYO Rules of Competition also include valuable information regarding these leagues and can be found here.
Find Team Members. Create a team from any eligible students grades 9-12. Eligible students include members of any
CYO or Kansas City Parochial League (KCPL) parish, or students at the area Catholic high schools in Kansas and Missouri (see Rules of Competition for more information). Keep in mind that although you can create a team with just five players,
stiff penalties for forfeits mean you should probably have at least a few players on the bench each game so that you can always field a full team. Also, keep in mind that teams are split by grade level in both boys and girls leagues (Freshman,
Sophomore, Junior and Senior leagues). If you have a mix of grades, you will likely be placed in the older age group.
Find a Coach. The Coach of your team will need to submit team roster, coach information, and the payment of team fees online. The team fee for the 2019-2020 season is $900 per team.
Also, please be sure that you submit any schedule conflicts (i.e. high school events/activities) along with registration.
We can't guarantee working around these, but we give priority to parish & high school conflicts while creating the schedule. Due to the large number of teams, we usually cannot accommodate changes once the schedule is released and the season begins.
Get Uniforms. CYO High School uniforms are required for participation in these leagues (You can also use your parish uniforms, contact the parish AD to make this request). So long as it meets requirements, you may use your uniform from
You may also download the manual form here and submit to Center Sports in person. Please see CYO Rules of Competition for more details.
Note: Parents and Coaches of participants in the CYO High School Basketball league are not required to attend the Play Like a Champion workshops required for our youth leagues. For more information on CYO High School Basketball, contact your sponsoring parish or the CYO Office.
Let the Games Begin! Games begin the first weekend in December and continue through the tournament in late February.
