The Saint Sebastian Award is a new initiative designed to celebrate two CYO participants who demonstrate courageous virtue and service in the true image of Christ. Each year in our parish communities and CYO competition, many students go above and beyond in their example of what it means to be a young Catholic in today's world. This award has been created in an effort to recognize these young people and allow their actions to be an example for others. It's namesake, Saint Sebastian, is named the patron saint of athletes for his enduring service to God, his energetic spreading of the faith, and his courageous actions as a martyr.
The award will be presented each spring at the culmination of our CYO seasons to one boy and one girl from our Johnson & Wyandotte County parishes. Each parish Athletic Director will be able to nominate one boy and one girl from the parish who through a single action or continual effort has demonstrated extraordinary virtue and exemplified the CYO mission during the year. These actions need not take place on the field of competition, but may also include the classroom, other parish activities, or outside endeavors. Nominees can come from any grade participating in CYO grade school competition.
Nomination forms are available by clicking here. Each nomination must also include a recommendation from the parish priest (see form) and are due by May 15, 2012. Nominations will be reviewed by a CYO committee and recipients ratified by the CYO Executive Board in May each year. Please contact the CYO Office with any questions.
